The Best Butter Tart Festival is Canada’s original and largest butter tart festival. It is an annual event in Ontario’s butter tart heartland of Midland. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 festival was cancelled, however the date for next year’s fun is June 12, 2021.
At the inaugural festival in June 2013, the bakers sold out of the 10,000 butter tarts available for sale by 11 a.m. The number of butter tarts available for sale is increasing each year. In the last few years there has been between 150,000 to 200,000 butter tarts available! In 2019, the festival had a record 65,000 butter tart lovers in attendance.
